Action is one thing, car photos are another. Many photographers do those. My favourite sport photos? The details. The prep. People in their element, focus and tools.
I always love watching coordiantions like these — mesmerizing! Thank you M-Sport for letting me behind the barriers.
All photos are free-use, and encouraged to share and post, as long as they’re credited properly. (Hire me, please.)
My name is Mara, I'm a sport photographer. And I want to break into motorsports.
I am a 21 year old student of computer engineering from Rijeka, Croatia.
I grew up doing finswimming, a smaller sport, with a very tight-knit community. I know everyone in the national scene, and have made lasting international friendships as well.
The rallying community has felt much the same for me.
I loved being trackside. Just drove up through the back roads to each stage and shot some pictures. Everyone I spoke to that weekend was so nice and helpful. I can only compare them to punks and metalheads at concerts — endlessly passionate and equally kind.
More so than the action, I love capturing people in their element. I'm very good at fading from attention and really capturing athletes in their focus, the details and the moments right before the plunge.
The preparation shots, the different approaches, the casual chats and nervous silences. I've been in all those moments, I recognize them and I love picking them out from the loud and crowded surroundings of the pool.
I would love the opportunity to do the same in motorsports. Not just the drivers, but the whole team. Everyone does anything to help, no matter their job description.
Rally in particular is special in that sense — you are racing against the track, the elements, time. Fixing things on the fly. Try everything before admitting failure.
Motorsports is the highlight of human innovation, but rallying is the peak of resilience and perseverance. Nowhere else do spectators pull out cars from ditches regardless of teams. Applying my photography to it would be a great challenge, and a great honor.
I've been doing sport (finswimming) photography since I got my camera in autumn 2023. I am entirely self taught in photography and photo editing.
I started out with a Canon EOS 4000D and a Canon f/1.8 50 mm lens, and have also gotten a Canon f/2.8 70 – 200 mm. I edit in Adobe Lightroom.
Most of the competition photos I've taken between my own races. I am proud of my progress so far, and can see how much I have gotten better since.
While I've lingered on the outskirts of motorsports for far too long, my jump into rallying has been recent. My first in-person experience was the European World Rally Championship CroRally 2025 this October.
Mrtva Riba is a project by me, centered around my photography. It will also include graphic work, essays and some journalism.
For any questions or requests you might have for me, I am available through phone, text or e-mail provided here. Please contact me in the case of using any of my work.
